The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta, Oba Professor Saka Matemilola, has donated and installed solar powered lights within the premises of the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ,Ogun Council.
The monarch made the promise during a media parley, held with journalists at the Olusegun Osoba Hall, recently in Abeokuta.
The monarch equally promised to donate two modern entrances doors to the Council as well.
During the parley, the monarch charged newsmen to continue to be the watchdog of the society through their objective reporting, and also exposed the ills in the society.
He encouraged them to uphold the ethics of their profession without fear or favour.
Oba Matemilola appreciated the role of the media in the nation building and tasked journalists to always promoter the image of the country positively to the outside world.
The Chairman of the Council, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, appreciated the revered king for the gesture extended to Union.
He said the lighting up of the Secretariat became necessary in order to address security situation within the premises of the Council, popularly addressed as Iwe Irohin.
Olanrewaju said the prompt installation of the solar powered light project by the monarch speaks volume about his passion for development.
The Council chairman, therefore, called on all well meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the council in building a befitting Secretariat on it's landed property on Abiola Way in Abeokuta.
He said it is the desire of his administration to construct a new Secretariat for journalists in Ogun State, and more importantly, in Abeokuta, where the town the first newspaper in Nigeria was published
While inspecting the light up project, the Oyega of Owu Kingdom, Chief Adelani Adebayo, said the monarch loved fulfilling his promises within a shortest period, hence the installation of the solar lights within a week.
He said" Kabiyesi dislikes projects being delivered very late after promise, and he is a kind of person that always fulfil any promise he made to people , no matter how huge they are"
"If he (Oba Matemilola) promise people , consider it done . He told me(Oyega) that it is been long he(Oba Matemilola) announced the solar lights and the entrance gates to to the council's hall to the journalists . It looks irritating and embarrassing to him to allow his promises or projects to be dragged before fulfilling them."
