Strike: FG, ASUU meet today
The Federal Government and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will meet today (Thursday), over the ongoing strike emabrked by the Union.
News Contact Online recalled that ASUU had been on strike since February 14.
This disclosure was made by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, while speaking with journalists at the State House after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting , on Wednesday
Ngige assured that efforts were on towards resolving the face-off between the government and ASUU as well as other university-based unions over payment platforms.
He dismissed insinuations that the federal government had not been engaging ASUU in meetings, as a way of resolving issues raised by the union.
ASUU had embarked on strike based on demands which included the revitalisation of public universities; earned allowance; improved funding of state universities; and promotion arrears.
Others are the replacement of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) with its own University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) in the payment of emoluments to its member.
Ngige further dismissed the insinuation that the federal government was planning to introduce different salary payment platforms for the trade unions in tertiary institutions.
