The Ministers of State for Environment and his counterpart in Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako and Professor Joseph Ustev, in company of the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday, visited the flooding Isheri North community in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Abiodun while addressing residents of the affected communities promised that all steps needed to address the challenge would be taken.
He appreciated President Bola Tinubu for responding swiftly to his government’s call in finding immediate solution to the water problem.
“I am here within 72-hours in finding solution to this challenge. I promised you that the situation will get federal government attention. I commended President Bola Tinubu for his responsiveness to the plight of the people of Isheri North.
“He has sent two Ministers, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Ustev and that of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako.
“We should look at what the immediate steps should be. What the medium and long term steps should be. We have thought through that there’s need for a drainage problem. That there must be proper channelization,” he added.
A resident who identified himself as Engr. Smith, hinted that the flooding of the area is not new, while appreciating the Ogun State Government for its effort.
He, however, emphasized the need of placing premium on human lives than acquaculture.
Another resident, Engr Omigbodun urged the federal government to follow the laws establishing River Basins Development Authority, saying that companies engaging in Fish Farming should not be there.
The team thereafter proceeded to the areas affected by the flood.
