The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, has provided succour to a woman carrying a lifeless two-month old baby on a roadside.
Adeleye in a post on her Facebook page said she received a call from @Letter_to_Jack, on the plight of the woman, and immediately swung into action with her team.
The Commissioner explained that her team discovered that the baby carried by the woman had passed on, and that while engaging with the woman identified as Mrs Aminatu, the circumstances surrounding the death of the baby was revealed.
The post reads thus, “Today, I received a call from @Letter_to_Jack concerning a distressing situation. A woman was found by the roadside, carrying her 2-month-old child who was looking lifeless. My team and I immediately responded, but upon arrival, it was evident that the child had passed away.
“We then engaged with Mrs. Aminatu (the mother of the child), seeking to understand her circumstances. She led us to her family’s home, where we discovered her husband was blind, and the deceased child had been born prematurely with underlying health issues. Recognizing the dire situation, we resolved to provide support.
“I instructed my team to collect their details, and we are in the process of exploring ways to help Mrs. Aminatu set up a business to support her family, as she is the family’s sole provider. Additionally, we will ensure the family receives family planning to prevent the birth of more children they may struggle to care for, given their existing three children.
“During this incident, we also encountered another distressing situation. We rescued a child who was being used by another woman for begging. Although this lady has been rehabilitated multiple times, she keeps returning to the streets.
“The welfare of every woman and child in Ogun State is of paramount importance to me, and I am committed to doing everything in our power to ensure their well-being. Our mission is to make a positive impact and create a safer, more supportive environment for those in need.”
