The Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Hon. Bukola Olopade, said the world has lost and icon with the passage of the Group CEO, Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, in an helicopter crash in USA, on Friday.
Olopade, in a tribute personally signed and made available on Sunday to News Contact Online, described the deceased as a brilliant man, wonderful humanitarian and trendsetting business man.
The tribute reads, “It is hard to describe the pain of loss, and it is even more difficult to process it.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of the Group CEO of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Chizoba, and his son, in a terrible helicopter crash.
“Herbert was not only a thoroughly brilliant man, he was a wonderful humanitarian, and a trendsetting business man who gave everyone in the business community ideas to aspire to.
“We received the news a couple of hours after the conclusion of the 9th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. Herbert bought into the dream when he saw the sheer number of people who would benefit from the race.
That was just one of the hallmarks of the man! He was a dependable partner in business, progress and most importantly, impact.
“In a decidedly though landscape, Herbert created a culture of excellence in his world -class organization by growing the capacity of many thousands directly and so many millions, indirectly.
“We pray for fortitude and comfort for the family, friends, and acquaintances of all the victims of the crash.
“With global recognition as an upstanding gentleman who was just so talented at finance, business, and social impact, Herbert was deeply committed to everything local.
“He had a positive impact on lives of so many people, and we can only take solace in the fact that he created mechanisms and institutions which will keep his legacy of excellence forever in our hearts . Herbert was a great man . The world has lost an icon.
“May his soul rest in peace”.
