Experts call for continuous learning amid AI revolution

Experts in the technology sector have urged young professionals to develop relevant skills and adapt to emerging trends in artificial intelligence (AI) to remain competitive in an evolving global workforce.

The experts spoke at the inaugural Artificial Future Conference, organised by the Young People in Tech (YPIT) community in Lagos, where industry leaders, technology founders, students and early-career professionals gathered to discuss the future of AI and its impact on careers and businesses.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Olumide Okubadejo challenged professionals to rethink how they work in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

He advised participants to focus on outcomes rather than routine tasks, noting that those who adapt to technological change would be better positioned to thrive in the future workplace.

The conference brought together stakeholders across the technology ecosystem and featured keynote sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities.

Speaking about the initiative’s objective, Lead Convener of the conference, Daniel Adewunmi, said the programme was conceived to provide a platform for aspiring technology professionals to interact directly with industry experts and gain practical insights into opportunities in the AI sector.

According to him, activities leading up to the conference began in April and culminated in an event that connected participants with mentors and role models in the technology industry.

Adewunmi noted that the arrangement allowed young professionals, students and industry leaders to engage in the same environment, creating opportunities for learning and collaboration.

Also speaking, Co-founder of YPIT, Tobi Aromire, said the organisation was established in 2022 to address the need for networking and growth opportunities for young professionals seeking to build careers in technology.

He said the conference was designed to provide students and early-career professionals with access to learning resources, industry knowledge and professional networks.

Founders and executives of AI-focused companies, including Spitch, XaraAI, BimpeAI, Tonative and Remostarts, participated in panel discussions and fireside chats on innovation, entrepreneurship and the growing role of artificial intelligence across industries.

One of the highlights of the event was a live pitch competition featuring the top 10 teams from YPIT’s AI Hackathon, which concluded a week before the conference.

Following the finalists’ presentations, the organisers announced the winners, with the overall best team receiving a cash prize of N1 million. Other outstanding participants were also recognised with awards.

Representatives of several technology and business organisations, including Paystack, Africa Fintech Foundry, FibreOne, Aethex and LuaAI, attended the event.
