The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, has commissioned a newly constructed office facility at Olorunda, provided by the Orunda of Olorunda, Oba Dr Joshua Olusegun Phillips-Ogunsola, to strengthen the agency’s operations and community engagement in the area.

The facility was commissioned on Wednesday as part of efforts to enhance the presence of the anti-narcotics agency and intensify the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the community.

The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers and representatives of security agencies, including the representative of the Commissioner of Police, CSP Oladipupo Bakre, Divisional Police Officer, Olorunda; the Officer Commanding the Army Base, Olorunda, MW Shuaibu U; and other security stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Oba Phillips-Ogunsola said he provided the facility because of his passion for the campaign against drug abuse and his desire to support the NDLEA in protecting residents from the harmful consequences of illicit drugs.

The traditional ruler commended the Ogun State Command of the NDLEA for its commitment and dedication to combating drug abuse and trafficking, stressing that the agency needed the support of communities to effectively discharge its responsibilities.

Responding, the State Commander of the NDLEA, Commander Tijjani Rabe, expressed appreciation to the traditional ruler and the people of Olorunda for providing the facility, describing the gesture as a demonstration of community ownership and support for the fight against illicit drugs.

Rabe said the development would enable the Command to sustain effective operations in the area, adding that officers had already been deployed to commence operations at the facility.

He charged the personnel to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and discipline while carrying out their duties.

The NDLEA commander stressed that the fight against illicit drugs could not be won by the agency alone, calling for sustained cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions and members of the public.

According to him, effective drug control requires collaboration, timely sharing of information and coordinated action among relevant stakeholders.

Rabe further pledged the Command’s renewed commitment to protecting residents of Olorunda and other communities in the state from the consequences of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

The ceremony featured the hoisting of the Nigerian and NDLEA flags, while an Award of Appreciation and a War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) banner were presented to Oba Phillips-Ogunsola in recognition of his support for the agency’s anti-drug campaign.
