Former Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, has commended the Gateway Front Foundation (GFF) for its commitment to humanitarian healthcare and community development, describing its partnership with medical professionals as a worthy contribution to improving the lives of residents.
Obasanjo gave the commendation after attending the GFF@25 luncheon organised in honour of the United States-based medical team behind the Sharing Hope Medical Mission and other partners supporting the foundation’s humanitarian initiatives.
The luncheon was part of activities marking the 25th anniversary of the foundation established by former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel.
The gathering celebrated the spirit of compassion, selfless service and collaboration among healthcare professionals, philanthropists and other stakeholders committed to expanding access to medical services for underserved communities.
Obasanjo praised the foundation for recognising the invaluable contributions of the visiting medical team and its partners, noting that sustained collaboration was essential to building healthier and stronger communities.
The programme is designed to provide residents with access to medical consultations, medications, eye care and surgical interventions without the financial burden that often prevents people from seeking specialist treatment.
The medical mission covers a range of procedures, including ophthalmological, gynaecological, orthopaedic and plastic surgeries, alongside other healthcare services delivered through designated medical centres.
Reports on the programme indicated that about 15,000 residents were expected to benefit from the intervention, with patients requiring specialised treatment receiving attention from participating medical professionals.
The involvement of the US-based medical team also highlights the importance of international medical collaboration in sharing professional expertise, strengthening healthcare delivery and extending specialist services to people who might otherwise struggle to afford them.
For Obasanjo, whose professional background includes public health and healthcare administration, the initiative provides an opportunity to recognise the role of partnerships and humanitarian interventions in addressing healthcare needs at the community level.
She also expressed appreciation to Senator Gbenga Daniel, Yeye Olufunke Daniel and other supporters of the foundation for sustaining initiatives that bring hope and positive change to society.
The former commissioner congratulated the Gateway Front Foundation on its 25th anniversary, stressing the importance of selfless service and sustained partnerships in advancing community development.
The medical mission and the recognition of its partners underscore the foundation’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian service, with the anniversary providing an opportunity to celebrate the individuals and organisations contributing to its interventions
