The Ogun State First Lady, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, has earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Public Policy and Management from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, almost four decades after obtaining her first degree.
Her latest academic feat has attracted commendation from the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who described the achievement as a demonstration of determination, tenacity and commitment to personal development.
Salako-Oyedele, in a congratulatory message to the First Lady, who she described as her “dear sister and friend”, expressed admiration for her decision to return to the classroom after nearly 40 years, while simultaneously managing public responsibilities and family commitments.
The Deputy Governor said going back to school after such a long period was impressive, but combining the academic pursuit with a hectic schedule and responsibilities associated with public office made the achievement particularly remarkable.
She said the First Lady had demonstrated that age or the passage of time should not constitute a barrier to acquiring new knowledge and challenging oneself.
“Going back to school almost 40 years after earning her BSc is impressive enough, but doing it while juggling a hectic schedule, public responsibilities and family life takes a special kind of determination and tenacity,” Salako-Oyedele said.
The Deputy Governor noted that the First Lady’s achievement had shown that it was never too late to return to the classroom, learn something new and pursue fresh goals.
She added humorously that the accomplishment could inspire many others to reconsider their own educational aspirations.
“I have a feeling this achievement may inspire quite a few of us to start looking at course brochures and wondering, ‘Why not me?’” she said.
Salako-Oyedele congratulated the First Lady on the academic milestone and expressed confidence that the knowledge acquired would further enhance her contributions to governance and society.
“Congratulations, my dear sister. I look forward to seeing you put all that learning to even greater use and to the impact that will surely follow,” she added.
She prayed that Almighty God would continue to increase the First Lady in knowledge and wisdom.
In the same vein, a former governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has joined the admirers of
Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, to congratulate her on her graduation
Showunmi, the Convener of The Alternative , in a congratulatory message, described Mrs Abiodun as an “iconic woman of grace, appropriateness and quiet strength,” commending her for the manner in which she has discharged her responsibilities as First Lady.
He said her ability to combine calmness, elegance and strength in the discharge of her public responsibilities was worthy of admiration.
Showunmi said he had always admired the First Lady’s intellect and discipline, adding that her latest academic accomplishment further demonstrated her commitment to learning and personal excellence.
“Congratulations on this remarkable success. As one who greatly admires your intellect and discipline, I must add that I wish you a PhD someday. You can certainly do it,” Showunmi said.
He noted that pursuing a doctorate would be a fitting testimony to her character, commitment to learning and lifelong pursuit of excellence.
Showunmi also expressed confidence that Mrs Abiodun’s husband, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, would be immensely proud of her achievement, just as many other people were.
While congratulating the First Lady, he commended her contributions to the development of the state, particularly the manner in which she had conducted herself in public office.
“Thank you for being such an outstanding First Lady of Ogun State. Your conduct, compassion, and dignity have left an indelible mark,” he stated.
Showunmi further expressed optimism that greater opportunities and accomplishments awaited the First Lady, urging her to continue her contributions to society.
“There is so much more ahead of you, and I look forward to seeing the greater heights that await,” he added.
He described Mrs Abiodun in glowing terms as “Madam First Lady. Her Excellency. Excellent in conduct,” while reaffirming his admiration and support for her.
