Former Secretary to the Ogun  State Government, Chief Taiwo Adeoluwa, has donated a standard table tennis board to the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, as part of activities to mark 83rd birthday of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
Adeoluwa, who is the Agbaakin of Egbaland, said sporting material was donated the NUJ in appreciation of God’s benevolence over the life of the revered monarch, whose reign has brought tremendous development to the entire Egbaland.
The sporting material is jointly donated by the High Chief and his wife, Chief Mrs Folasade Adeoluwa, which formed part of the activities surrounding the Alake’s 83rd birthday table tennis tournament held at the Ikoyi Club, Lagos, from October 26 to 30, 2026.
The State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju while receiving the donation, on behalf of the Council, appreciated Chief Adeoluwa for the thoughtful gesture, describing it as a welcome contribution to the council’s efforts at developing sporting facilities for journalists.
The donation, according to Olarenwaju, comes at a significant period in the history of Ogun NUJ, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary alongside its Press Week.
He said, ” As part of projects commemorating the golden jubilee, the council is embarking on the development of a modern media resource centre designed to accommodate a sports arena, studio, newsroom and other essential facilities for media professionals.
“The proposed facility is expected to provide journalists with an environment that promotes professional development, physical fitness, creativity and collaboration, while also serving as a lasting legacy for present and future generations of media practitioners in the state.”
The NUJ Chairman further noted that the donation would complement the council’s vision of creating a functional sports arena within the proposed project, particularly at a time when the union is expanding its focus beyond professional activities to the general welfare and well-being of its members.
The gesture by Chief Adeoluwa is also seen as an expression of support for the media community and a recognition of the important role journalists play in society.
