The National leadership of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NASU and SSANU has directed all it’s members to proceed on total and comprehensive strike from May 1.

This was contained in a circular jointly signed by Comrades Peter Adeyemi, the General Secretary of NASU and Mohammed Ibrahim, President, SSANU, dated 30th April, 2026.

The circular explained that the national leadership of the JAC held a meeting with government officials, and that the discussion focused on the slow pace of Renegotiation of 2009 agreements for the non-teaching staff unions.

The JAC also highlighted the rejection of the 30 percent CONTTA award letter.

Parts of the circular reads, ” “It is necessary to inform members that, while the government team passionately appealed to the Joint Action Committee of NASU and SSANU to rescind the strike notice, they have withdrawn the 30 percent CONTTA award letter. There was however,no new offer superceeding the 30 percent CONTTA award, or a definite commitment on when the renegotiation exercise would be concluded.

“In view of this we hereby direct our members to commence total and comprehensive strike action in all universities and inter University centres campuses from 12.00am of May 1st.”
